Already generating five star feedback with with it's stylish, moody ‘city’ look, is our New Road Hotel project incorporating a Marco Pierre White English Chophouse, in New Road, Whitechapel. The project to create the 80 bedroom boutique hotel within a historic building which was previously a 1930s textile factory, has been thus far a resounding success and we are delighted with the finished product.
The initial brief was to create a design for a boutique hotel with echoes of the past. However as we progressed, we decided that we needed more than a 1930s industrial style, as this look has been rather overplayed over the years. We subsequently decided to base the design on a moody ‘city’ style hotel with echoes of the industrial look, coupled with 1970s elements. The owners wanted to create something different within the locality, whilst being in keeping with the existing building and it’s history - this was important to them.

"Key aspects of the design include the eclectic mix of 70s features such as the furniture, tiling and colour palette, together with retained aspects of the building such as exposed untreated brick and exposed pipework, which complements the rawness of the structure, showcases the history of the building and works really well - in addition to being true to the 1930s period.
Additional original features such as large metal windows, old fire doors, and works-style signage all add character to the design. Another retained element was the original parquet flooring, which was not used on the floors, but featured as a decorative element to clad the lift cores on all four floors of the building. There is a’rawness’ about all the spaces, but these work very well. We also used a lot of vintage fabric artwork on the riser doors on all the floors, featuring patterns from years gone by as a reference to the building’s textile past, and adding a splash of colour to the otherwise moody, dark colour palette.
An added bonus was Marco Pierre White teaming up with the New Road Hotel to launch his first ever Chophouse in London. Mr. White’s English Chophouse gives a nod to tradition and centres on everything that chophouses are famed for: meat and hearty portions.
In addition to the restaurant, the hotel incorporates a fitness studio and several social zones where guests can enjoy live music, play pool in the games zone or relax in the library. There are also two private event rooms, a cereal bar, and a rooftop terrace."
