Concealed within the original vaults of the old bank, now the 5 Star Westin Hotel, the Mint Bar is a reoccurring winner of ‘Hotel Bar of the Year.’ We set out to design a moody, sophisticated cocktail bar in this landmark hotel.
The vaulted ceiling was the main structural element of the design and we cleverly enhanced it with concealed coffer lighting that surrounds the top of each floor to ceiling column.
Key aspects of the design included the coin - edged detail of feature lighting over the bar area, formed from green bottle ends an ode to the the old bank and to the new bar. Using the soothing green pantone represents the colour of money and at the same time compliments the dark wood and paint finishes. Tinges of gold detailing to the mouldings, chair fixtures and book hangings add to the theme. The design chosen clearly reflects the link between the vault of the past and the social hub of the present.
